About BTC

The company has a history stretching back over 50 years having mounted its first production in 1952: "Pygmalion" by Bernard Shaw.

The BTC came into being in 2003 after being known for many years as "The Bathurst Players". Before that the company was a part of "Bathurst Society of Music and Arts Players". The society administered several groups such as a Recorded Music Group, a Film Society an Art Group as well as Bathurst Players. The Society was also the local entrepreneur for professional companies and artists touring to Bathurst under the Arts Council of NSW.

2003 also saw the incorporation of the Bathurst Youth Theatre into The Bathurst Players to become the Bathurst Theatre Company.

The BTC aims to:
- provide risk taking theatre to the Bathurst community
- build audiences through education and workshops including theatre for young people, and to
- foster local talent and produce original work each year.

The company was based at the Park Hotel in George Street (now "The George" ) for some years and now performs regularly at Keystone 1889, in Keppel Street and at BMEC.

On an interesting historical note, the first production ("Pygmalion", directed by Oliver Fiala, a Czech from Prague) was produced at the Masonic Hall, which was later Aronne’s and The Carrington and now Keystone 1889.  This outstanding heritage building was constructed in 1888 and was the home of the BSMA Players Group until 1980.
